Powering the energy transition for a carbon free economy and supporting economic growth in Portland and the Southwest of Victoria
Quantem, the leading independent bulk liquid storage and handling company in Australia/New Zealand, has commenced a scoping study to build a renewables bulk liquid storage terminal at Portland.
This project will support sustainable economic growth and employment in the region through investment in critical infrastructure for low carbon liquid fuels, such as renewable methanol and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF).
The project is being supported by the Victorian Government’s Portland Diversification Fund.
Portland is uniquely positioned to support Australia’s decarbonisation strategy. With no existing common-user bulk liquid storage facilities, Quantem’s proposed terminal will enable both import and export capabilities, support multi-user access, and drive sustainable regional economic growth.
Quantem CEO Nick Moen said: “This is an important project to support the broader bulk liquid needs of the Portland region and the southwest of Victoria, including liquid fertilisers, fats and oils, and other chemicals which are critical inputs for agriculture, manufacturing, and regional industry.”
“This facility will also unlock new trade flows, reduce supply chain costs, and improve bulk liquid supply access for local businesses.”
“We are actively engaging with project proponents across Australia and New Zealand to support emerging low carbon liquid fuels projects and are already in discussions with several developers to explore long-term storage partnerships at both our existing terminals, and potential new sites.”
