Community – West Melbourne, VIC
ANZ Terminals owns and operates a bulk liquid hazardous chemical storage facility in West Melbourne on land leased from the Melbourne Port Corporation.
The company receives liquid products by pipeline from ships and stores them in its 75 tanks, which have a total capacity of 55,620m3.
At present, ANZ Terminals stores pyrolysis gasoline, phenol and general flammable chemicals at its West Melbourne facility. The chemicals stored are used in the production of paint, plastics, lubricating oils, detergents, pharmaceuticals and health care products.
Community engagement in relation to ANZ Terminals’ West Melbourne site is facilitated through the Coode Island Community Consultative Committee (CICCC). The CICCC was formed by the Maribyrnong and Melbourne councils with the support of ANZ Terminals.
It provides a framework for the community to monitor ANZ Terminals’ West Melbourne facility, raise and address any health, safety and environmental issues. The Coode Island Community Consultative Committee website provides detailed information on the CICCC. This website is independent of ANZ Terminals and is managed by the community consultative committee.
Through the CICCC, ANZ Terminals has established a community grants program. Grants of up to $3000 per project are available to community groups based in Footscray, Kensington, Seddon and Yarraville. Each year a total of $10,000 may be granted.
